Testimonial from the winner of MAPS travel Award 2018 Ms Rishiesvari Ravee (MSc candidate @ UKM) with MYR2,000 to attend the 7th National Plant Protein Research Conference & 2018 Meeting of Agricultural Proteomics in Jinan, China, November 2-5, 2018:
Date: 12 /11/2018 The 7th national plant protein research conference that I have attended provided fruitful topics on plant protein research with the latest application of omics technology. Since my research is about proteomic analysis of a secreted plant protein and this conference provided a great opportunity for practise constructive dialogue with researcher in the field. This conference is an ideal platform to present my work because it is an international forum consists of speakers, researchers, technologist and industry representatives who are experts in plant protein. Besides, this forum represent unique forum for both scientific cooperation and cultural exchanges. It was organized by Botanical Society of China and University of Jinan. In addition, it covered various aspects of plant protein ranging from structure and function of proteins, agricultural proteomics, novel techniques for PTMs and new insights into multi-omics integration, plant development, photosynthesis, and circadian clock. The abstract that I have submitted was accepted for poster presentation. The abstract “Time course analysis of protein compositional changes in pitcher fluid of Nepenthes ampullaria” was printed in the conference book. I was given an hour for my poster presentation on Monday 5th November 2018 meanwhile I had opportunity to attend other conference events such as plenary lectures and oral presentations on 3rd and 4th November. Even though majority of the lectures and presentations were conducted in Mandarin, I managed to understand their research scope and findings based on the printed abstracts. Moreover, most of the presentation slides were in English and Mandarin which was helpful for me to get some new ideas regarding proteomics. It provided me a valuable learning experience. For instance, I have a remarkable opportunity to gather together, interact and exchange their findings and opinions during conference sessions, tea breaks, and conference dinner. Consequently, I have known a number of academics and professionals from different countries who have similar research interests such as multi-omics integration and functional proteomics. Finally, I would like to thank Malaysian Agricultural Proteomics Society for giving me the opportunity to attend the conference via their travel grant which covered the main part of my expenses. This conference was very interesting and enriched my experience with more information, knowledge, and confidence.
